DAF CF Electric Refuse Truck
DAF CF Electric Refuse Truck on Trial

It looks like DAF Trucks almost have an electric CF truck ready for market.  They will be starting field trials in the Netherlands this year on a 6×2 CF fitted with a waste management body.

These aren’t the first electric DAF trucks to go out on trial, there are a number of electric CF tractor units that have been on field tests for more than a year now.  These are being used in a wide range of applications, including container works and supermarket distribution.

Perfect for Rubbish

DAF believe that their electric rigid is suited to urban short-distance distribution and ideal for waste collection.  Not only is the truck emission free at the exhaust pipe, (which it doesn’t have either) it is extremely quiet – something anyone living in a city can appreciate when the refuse trucks arrive at 4am!

To allow for the additional weight of the batteries, the electric CF’s gross vehicle weight is 28 tons – an extra 2 tonnes on top of the standard 6×2 driven by a diesel engine.

Most refuse vehicles head back to the dump on a regular basis. It is believed that the time they spend there means that the 170 kWh electric  DAF CF vehicles can be recharged to 80% in just thirty minutes, giving them enough power to carry out the next collection round.
