Iveco has made sure that their championship-winning race truck team have the latest versions of their trucks on show.  The S-Way was introduced last year with a new cab which is more aerodynamic than the outgoing Stralis.  It was therefore only natural that the truck replaces last year’s championship winning Stralis at the hands of Team Hahn Racing.

Until 2017, the successful race team were using MAN trucks and prior to 2008, Mercedes-Benz trucks. Since 2017 the team has been working for the Italian manufacturer, winning the championship in 2018 and 2019.

Official Presentation

IVECO started the 2020 racing season with the official presentation of the new IVECO S-WAY R racing trucks specially prepared for Team Hahn Racing and Team Schwabentruck taking place at the IVECO test track at its facility in Ulm, Germany on 16th May 2020.

Drivers Jochen Hahn from Team Hahn Racing and Steffi Halm from Team Schwabentruck raced the new trucks on the test rack at IVECO’s heavy-duty truck manufacturing and R&D centre in Ulm. Due to the current situation, the presentation was attended by a small group of participants in compliance with safety measures and hygiene regulations.

The event was also livestreamed on IVECO’s Facebook page, so that the teams’ sponsors, colleagues and fans were able to view the presentation, a short look back at the very successful 2019 season and a preview of the upcoming truck racing season.

Research & Development

The presentation of the IVECO S-WAY R trucks follows five months of development and testing. The new racing trucks benefit from all the advanced design and engineering features of the IVECO S-WAY range launched in 2019 – from the cab that combines functionality and comfort to the optimised aerodynamics that reduce the Cx drag coefficient by as much as 12% and deliver up to 4% fuel savings.

Jochen Hahn, six–time European truck racing champion said:

The IVECO S-WAY R is – with no exaggeration – the best and the most stylish racing truck that we have ever produced. I can hardly wait to watch this ‘IVECO Bull’ really show what it’s capable of on the racetrack.”

Steffi Halm, driver on the Schwabentruck team thinks that hers is the most stylish:

When it comes to the colours, my truck is by far and away better-looking than Jochen’s, although I suppose that doesn’t matter too much this season, seeing as he’s only going to see it from behind!
