Family owned specialist corn and animal feed merchants, H. Walton Ltd of Old Goole in East Yorkshire, has recently taken delivery of their first new New Generation MAN Trucks. The new vehicles, in their traditional H Walton Ltd Brunswick green and gold lettering livery, will work across the business delivering a wide range of bagged and bulk feeds, fertilisers and wood pellets throughout the Midlands and into the Scottish Borders.

As a long term fan of the MAN Truck brand, and family business director David Walton said: “When purchasing a MAN you know exactly what you’re getting, they’re efficient, reliable and robust. But that’s not where the advantages end, when you look at customer service, you get a trusted relationship with the sales team and a partnership with the dealer, in our case Fishlake Commercial Motors of Doncaster, who both collectively understand the needs of our business and offer us a high level of 360 degree wrap-around care.”

The MAN Truck Fleet Specification

The three new vehicles, each individually specified to suit the needs of the business, come in the form of, two 44 tonne TGX tractors, a 26.510 and a 24.510 and, a 26 tonne TGS 26.360 rigid. The TGX 26.510 6×2 features the GM cab with additional satellite navigation and a fridge. This vehicle will predominantly pull a curtainsider trailer delivering bagged goods to customers.

Fitted with a 19.5-inch mid-lift axle the TGX 24.510 is equipped with a NTX/10c gearbox driven PTO which drives a Priden Engineering cooler pack supplying power and drive to a new Priden monocoque plank side bulk blower trailer. This vehicle is also fitted with the GM sleeper cab.

Both of these vehicles have been specified with the MAN EfficientRoll gearbox function which, via GPS data, automatically shifts the automated gearbox into neutral on downhill gradients, intelligently controlling coasting and maximising fuel efficiency. When engaged and coasting the engine idles at 550 rpm instead of the normal idling speed of 600 rpm further reducing fuel consumption.

The three axle 26 tonne TGS 26.360 6×2-4 with its Moffett Mounty will deliver animal feeds and meals to the exact point they are needed and, at the same time put less stress and strain on the driver.

The three axle 26 tonne TGS 26.360 6×2-4 rigid features the high roof TM Cab and has a 5900mm wheelbase which accommodates a 8.2 metre curtainside body and a Moffett Mounty with a custom built tray mounted into the sub-frame. It also features a lift and steer rear axle which helps reduce the turning circle and maximise efficiency and, at the same time via weight transfer improves traction on the drive axle when on challenging surfaces.

Established in the 1970’s H Walton Ltd is still a family affair (L to R) David Walton, Anthony Walton, Jason Walton and Charlie Walton.

Flexibility for Delivery is Vital

“In our business we don’t have the luxury of one-size-fits-all and that’s why each of our new vehicles offers a different solution,” said David. “Most of our delivery points are to individual farms and at times access can be tricky. The rigid with its lifting axle and moffett mounty will be a real asset to the business ensuring we deliver our feeds and meals to the exact point they are needed and, at the same time put less stress and strain on the driver.

“We like to ensure we offer our drivers a high level of comfort and safety throughout their working days, naturally this is of primary concern, and we feel that these new MAN trucks deliver the high standards they require. Certainly the comments and feedback we’ve had so far indicates once again that we’ve made the right choice.”

“In terms of efficiency and fuel consumption we’ve seen and heard a lot of good things about the new generation MAN trucks so were very much looking forward to seeing how they perform as they bed in and gain a few more miles under their belts; so far early indications are indeed very positive.” added David.
