High-Spec Tractors Deliver Comfort, Efficiency and Performance
Harrison’s Transport, the Preston-based temperature-controlled haulage specialist, has added ten brand-new Volvo FH Aero 6×2 tractor units to its fleet. Each vehicle has been specified with Globetrotter XL cabs and I-Park Cool technology, ensuring maximum driver comfort on long-distance deliveries.
The new arrivals replace older units from a rival manufacturer and are already making a strong impression across the business, particularly with fuel efficiency.
Positive Early Results from Real-World Driving
Managing Director Lee Harrison commented on the decision: “We had a demonstrator in for a few weeks, and the feedback was really positive in terms of fuel performance and the feel of the drive. Volvo then came back with a very competitive offer and we didn’t hesitate.”
With early figures already showing around 11 mpg, the team expects performance to improve further as the trucks settle in.

Advanced Powertrain and Fuel-Saving Innovations
Supplied by Neil Crook, Customer Solutions Manager at Thomas Hardie Commercials, the trucks are powered by Volvo’s Euro D13TC Step E 460hp engine, which uses turbo compound technology to deliver an additional 300 Nm of torque. This system recaptures energy from exhaust gases and channels it directly into the crankshaft, improving fuel economy without compromising performance.
Each unit features Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox with long-haul software and I-See predictive cruise control, allowing drivers to maintain higher gears over hills and gradients, reducing fuel use without sacrificing speed.
Aerodynamic Enhancements with Camera Monitoring
To further improve efficiency, Harrison’s Transport has opted for Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS)—replacing traditional wing mirrors with aerodynamic cameras. CMS not only reduces drag but expands the driver’s field of vision in all conditions. The in-built surveillance mode allows for external monitoring even when the cab is closed, offering extra security and safety during overnight stops.
Striking Livery and Premium Driver Accommodation
Each FH Aero tractor is finished in Harrison’s distinctive cobalt blue and red livery, complemented by Kelsa lightbars, air horns, and Dura-Bright alloy wheels for a smart and professional appearance.
Inside the spacious Globetrotter XL cab, specifications are tailored to support the company’s four-day tramping rotation. Drivers benefit from:
- Leather interior
- Microwave oven and fridge
- Volvo’s I-Park Cool intelligent overnight air conditioning system
“Our drivers are out for three nights at a time,” added Harrison. “Comfort is absolutely essential—and needless to say, those who’ve been handed the new Aeros are very happy indeed.”
