The brick carriers are specially adapted crane trucks which use a bespoke attachment on the crane which can grip and lift specially laid out piles of bricks, (rotating brick grab). In addition, these crane trucks can be used for block carrying and some truck buyers call them block carriers. Many will be kitted out with rear mounted cranes and a drawbar connection. This means that the crane will be able to load and unload bricks and blocks from the truck or trailer without difficulty. As with many expensive conversions, the brick carriers tend to be installed onto premium chassis such as Scania or Volvo. Since the cost of the crane, attachment and body is significant, operators do not want to gamble on the quality of the truck itself. A premium chassis usually helps in the resale value of the truck in the used market. These cranes can be front mounted behind the cabs, or more usually mid-mounted or rear mounted.
