What are Pet Regs?
For carrying dangerous loads, a specialist tractor unit is required. These vehicles must meet the ‘Petroleum Regulations’ or ‘Pet Regs’ as they are more commonly known in the industry. In actual fact they come under European-wide rules known as ADR. This may change post-Brexit, but maybe there are more important things to concentrate on. What is ADR? – Another term applied to this type of tractor units is an ‘ADR’ which is a European regulation concerning the transport of dangerous goods by road. ADR stands for ‘Accord Dangereux Routier’. A vehicle must have passed an ADR test – it will have been issued a certificate. Make sure that the certificate is present with the used truck and that it falls in the correct category for the type of work it is to carry out.
These are highly detailed regulations covering the vehicle, its construction and equipment and dates as far back as 1957.
What is SLP? This stands for ‘Sage Loading Pass’ which exists in the UK in addition to the ADR regulations.
There are plenty of specialist Pet Regs tractor units for sale at Truckpages. UK market leader in this segment of tractor units is MAN thanks in part to their acquisition of ERF in the distant past.
