Mercedes trucks make great distribution vehicles – the three pointed star adds some brand kudos to an operator.  For this reason there are always plenty of Mercedes Fridge trucks for sale at Truckpages. For lighter work, expect to be looking at the Atego fridge truck, whilst older versions of the Mercedes 18 tonne fridge truck are more likely to be an Axor with newer versions being Antos or Actros. Surprisingly it is still the Axor that is the most common Mercedes fridge truck for sale at Truckpages.  It will shortly be eclipsed by the Actros that has been the Mercedes model for 18-26 tonnes operation after the company canned the short-lived Antos which replaced the Axor back in 2014.

The Atego seems not particularly popular as a 7.5 tonne fridge truck- this may well be down to the weight.  Not the lightest chassis, when adding an insulated body and the refrigeration equipment plus a tail lift, there is not as much payload remaining as many would like. For this reason we see the Atego at the ‘inbetween’ weights at 12 to 15 tonnes where payload is less of an issue.

The well-engineered Sprinter is highly popular as a fridge van. It can stand up to the rigours of multi drop work and is fitted with plenty of safety features for urban operation. And there are models that go up to 5 tonnes GVW that give acceptable payload for a van.
