The flagship of the DAF truck range, the XF is found on nearly all long-distance DAF trucks in the UK. There is a smaller alternative in the CF range, but the superior width and height of the XF makes it a first choice for drivers – and that means the boss takes notice. Available as a Space Cab sleeper or a Super Space Cab, all of the XF tractor units shown on these pages should be post 2014, Euro 6 versions. There are still plenty of model variants to choose from, including the fleet 460hp versions up to the top power 530hp flagships. Available in a range of different axle configurations from a 4×2 to an 8×4, DAF are famous for offering the truck buyer choice. That means you need to question the spec of each truck carefully to make sure that it is the right one for your needs. The most common is the XF460 – more than enough power for the job – but that’s not enough for many, so there are also 480, 510 and 530hp versions of the tractor unit – all with the same MX13 engine. Need an older model? If you are looking to spend less or perhaps need a pre-Euro 6 for export, then you should be considering the DAF XF105 tractor units.
Ask any operator about which truck is the cheapest to run and they will all have a strong view. For example, some truck buyers may prefer to pay more for the truck upfront with the expectation of higher residuals at the back end. Repair and maintenance costs and reliability are major factors, as unplanned downtime can prove costly for an…
FM Conway, the largest manufacturer of asphalt in the south-east of England, has taken delivery of six new DAF XF 530 6x2 tractor units – replacing a different make within FM Conway’s aggregate and asphalt division. Approximately 60 DAF trucks operate across the company’s ten divisions, and now make-up 15% of the total fleet of 400 vehicles. The new XF 530 fleet was supplied by local DAF Dealer Channel Commercials, a decision influenced by several key factors, primarily cost-effectiveness, with DAF offering a competitive whole-life pricing structure. Additionally, the proximity of Channel Commercials' operations to FM Conway's Sevenoaks head-office ensures…
