You can buy a Mercedes Actros tractor unit in about every power output imaginable. That’s because the company is the world’s largest truckmaker and can therefore afford to launch a whole series of different model variants. The most popular currently available in the UK’s used truck market is the 6×2 version with 450hp – the Actros 2545. For the 4×2 variant, the slightly lower powered 430 hp 1843 tops the list. With the current cab style originally launched back in 2012, it still looks fresh and there is a strong demand in the used market at home and overseas for these trucks.
If the dealer workshop is next door to your site, then it would be foolish to not even consider a truck from that manufacturer. Location made sales consultant Ryan Lockett’s life easier when attempting to get a demo tractor unit into the Browns Distribution fleet. Soon afterwards, three Actros tractor units were supplied by eStar Truck & Van, whose site on Chemical Lane, Stoke-on-Trent, is just metres away from Browns’ own premises. They have joined a fleet dominated by two rival brands but, says Managing Director David Brown, an approach from eStar’s Truck Sales Consultant Ryan Lockett came at the…
There's a 2018 Mercedes 2545 tractor unit on this week's front cover. It has a StreamSpace cab and is heading for the Euro Auctions sale on 25th October where it will be joined by a 2014 Volvo FH540 6x4 heavy haulage tractor unit plus tractor units from MAN, Renault and DAF. The sale is unreserved, so you have the chance to grab a bargain. If you can't wait until the end of the months, CVA have a sale on the 17th October and Malcolm Harrison on the 21st. As usual, all of the auction inventory is listed online at www.truckpages.co.uk…
Company’s First Mercedes Actros for 22 Year Old From driving a delivery van to behind the wheel of a brand new Meredes Actros tractor unit inside a year, all at the ripe old age of 22 is no mean feat for Old Transport’s driver, Shay Wheeler. Old Haulage’s first Mercedes-Benz Actros has gone to the Tyneside company’s youngest driver – who is understandably delighted with his new truck. Shay Wheeler is just 22 and joined the company less than a year ago. In his previous job he drove a supermarket home delivery van. “I always wanted to graduate to bigger…
After having moved away from buying Mercedes trucks, Northern Ireland based McGimpsey Removals have bought their first Mercedes tractor unit since 2017. Instead of the usual 6x2 configuration seen with the StreamSpace cab, the removals truck is a 4x2 configuration and pulls a tandem axle trailer. In the removals business a truck will usually cube out before it weighs out. This means the extra axles would be a waste of time on this type of work. Delivered by local Dealer MBNI Truck & Van, the new arrival is a 4x2 Actros 1843, with StreamSpace cab. It joins a fleet of…
When Sheffield-based haulier Toutes Directions needed a new fleet flagship, they chose to ‘tick every box’ on the options list to reward a long-serving driver. Plated for operation at a gross combination weight of 68 tonnes, the Actros 2553 arrived via the local branch of Dealer Northside Truck & Van. It has a range-topping, flat-floored GigaSpace cab and is powered by a 530 hp, 12.8-litre in-line six-cylinder engine. Luxury Specification The truck also boasts an array of optional upgrades, including the interactive version of the radical, twin-screen Multimedia Cockpit dashboard. Other highlights that really help it to stand out include…
