Only launched at the end of 2020 in the UK, despite being widely available in left hand drive form on the Continent means that examples of used S-Way trucks are only available from 2021 onwards. The S-Way with its brand new cab replaced the Iveco Stralis as the top truck in Iveco’s portfolio. It has greatly improved all-round visibility and a reinforced ECE R29.03 cab crash compliant structure. Available as a rigid truck and tractor unit, there are a variety of cabs, starting with the AD short, low-roof cab, AT sleeper cab with low or medium-high roof to the largest AS sleeper cab which measures 2.5m wide and has a standing height of 2.15 metres. Compared to the outgoing Stralis, the new S-Way has improved aerodynamic performance, by up to 4%. The new 5-slat grille along with careful integration of air deflectors, door extensions, flush-fitting headlights and relocation of the parking cooler from the roof to under the front facia are just a handful of features that have contributed to an impressive 12% reduction in drag coefficient. No EGR to worry about as Iveco continue on their SCR only route to achieving Euro 6.
There is no shortage of engine choices for the new S-Way. Three swept volumes of 8.7, 11.1 and 12.9 litre diesels plus two gas engines at 8.7 and 12.9 litres.
The 8.7-litre CURSOR 9 offers 330, 360 and 400-horsepower and up to 1,700Nm of torque. The mid-range 11.1-litre CURSOR 11 gives 420, 460 and 480hp with 2,000 to 2,300Nm of torque, while the range-topping 12.9-litre CURSOR 13 gives 510 to 570hp with a hefty 2,300-2,500Nm.
The Natural Power CURSOR range is offered in two capacities, a 270, 340 and 400hp CURSOR 9 8.7-litre inline-six as well as the 12.9-litre CURSOR 13, producing 460hp and 2,000Nm. Both units can run solely on Liquid or Compressed Natural Gas, or a combination of both.
Announced in November 2023, Iveco carried out a 1 billion Euro investment in improving all of the trucks in their range, with a particular focus on the X-Way. Read all the information about the new engines for the facelifted model year version in the information section. The new xCursor 13 has new turbochargers, higher common rail pressure a lighter cylinder head and block and sees upgrades in power to 580hp. Iveco claims a 10% increase in fuel efficiency for the new models – even more if the predictive GPS is used.
Operators can also choose from several colours for the front grille and even have a different colour Iveco logo on the front.
