You’ll always find plenty of used Econics for sale at Truckpages – both those that can enter the ULEZ and older, non-Euro 6 models suitable for less congested environments. The Econic is famous for being a rubbish truck. That doesn’t mean it’s no good – on the contrary – it just means that it has historically been sold for refuse collection duties. The low entry cab and excellent five star all round vision standard sets it out from most other models of truck (perhaps the Dennis Elite aside). We are seeing increasing numbers of Econics fitted with different bodies – especially scaffold bodies and mixers, as they spend most of their lives inside urban environments where direct vision of pedestrians and cyclists is all important. With the Econic you get the quality build and extensive R&D investment that comes from buying the three pointed star.
There are always plenty of used Econics for sale here at Truckpages – make sure you check that the refuse equipment is designed for the job you have in mind. Available as a 4×2, 6×2 or 8×2 the Econic is available with gross vehicle weights of 18, 26 or 32 tonnes. Revised models were introduced in 2006 for Euro 4/5, 2008 for EEV, 2014 for Euro 6, (see detailed timeline below).
The Econic was originally launched way back in 1998 and sold as many as 8,000 units in its first ten years.
The arrival of GRS Group’s latest batch of Mercedes-Benz trucks means the operator is now running the country’s biggest fleet of low-entry Econic tippers. The three new trucks take GRS Group’s Econic line-up to 15 – all are 3235 models, and were delivered by Dealers Motus Truck & Van and Sparshatt Truck & Van. Based at depots in Rainham, Kent, and Bow, East London, they are currently working full-time on construction projects in Central London related to the HS2 high-speed rail link. They were chosen for the unrivalled field of view offered from the driver’s seat, a key factor in…
The Mercedes Econic has been built for some 25 years now. Starting off life as a 4x2 18 tonner for municipal applications, the model range has grown, as have the number of applications that the truck finds itself suited to. The low entry crew cab makes it ideal for many urban operations. Future developments see the fully electric eEconic replacing the natural gas engine and is rolling off the production line alongside the conventional Econic in Wörth. Milestones in the Econic success story The Econic was presented for the first time in 1998 at the Entsorga trade fair as an…
When Best UK Transport needed another concrete mixer truck for work in and around London, owner-driver Andrei Balean returned without hesitation for a second eight-wheeled Mercedes-Benz Econic. “For this application there’s nothing to touch the Econic,” he said. “It combines the reliable, cost-effective performance for which Mercedes-Benz is renowned, with fantastic visibility from the low-entry cab.” Ilford-based Andrei acquired his latest vehicle from the Peterborough branch of Dealer Intercounty Truck & Van. It wears the colours of leading customer Hanson UK, and works from the concrete giant’s depot in Dagenham, Essex, delivering to construction sites throughout London. The Econic Specification…
Gold Fish Transport saw a clear solution to the need for optimum visibility when working in the capital, in the shape of the Mercedes-Benz Econic. The construction materials distributor runs a fleet of 30 trucks from its base in Brentwood, Essex. Its first two Mercedes-Benz vehicles have just arrived via Dealer Motus Truck & Van. Both Econics – one is a 26-tonner, the other has an 18-tonne gross weight – they were purchased primarily for their safety credentials. With its deep, panoramic windscreen and the fully glazed, folding passenger door specified by Gold Fish Transport, the low-entry model affords drivers…
Totally Local Company Limited (TLC) had an exacting set of requirements for its latest trucks, and a pair of Mercedes-Benz Econics met or exceeded every one of them. The Stockport-based operator’s 32-tonne tipper-grabs were supplied by North West Dealer eStar Truck & Van and are now hard at work on a range of construction projects for public and private sector clients. TLC runs a range of heavy trucks. Although these are its first Econic tippers, many of the company’s refuse collection vehicles are based on the same chassis and have proved both reliable and cost-effective to operate. "For such a…
