The Range D is Renault Truck’s lightweight truck range where the naming seems a little back to front. Why Range D and not D Range? Only Renault know the answer to that one. The model is available in a choice of two widths the normal and the ‘Range D Wide’. For the older truck buyers amongst us, the Range D wide was the Euro 5 Premium and the Range D was the Midlum. Unusually for a truck manufacturer, Renault does not make the model down to 7.5 tonnes GVW for the UK, despite replacing the Midlum that did operate at these weights. This is, no doubt, more to do with the availability of a suitable Euro 6 engine than anything else, since the cab is performing very nicely at 7.5 tonnes in the guise of the DAF LF series. Launched in 2014 in the UK for Euro 6, all trucks of this model will meet this standard. These weren’t the best sellers new, but the examples that are available on the UK market represent sales in a variety of sectors from recovery trucks to curtainsiders and specialist scaffold trucks. The most common model variant is the 280hp version, the D280.
