Available from 2014 until the model revamp in 2017/2018 the DAF CF440 had been the most popular power output from the MX11 engine and was used for a variety of applications from a tractor unit to a tipper. Replaced by the CF450 in 2017/18, these models have a claimed 7% improvement in fuel usage. Less popular was the lower-powered 410HP version. The most common type of CF440 is a standard 4×2 tractor unit – most 6×2 variants would have opted for the larger-engined 460hp from the MX-13. So, expect to find lots of rigid trucks at this power output, particularly payload sensitive applications, such as tippers – benefitting from the lighter 11-litre engine.
There's a 2018 Mercedes 2545 tractor unit on this week's front cover. It has a StreamSpace cab and is heading for the Euro Auctions sale on 25th October where it will be joined by a 2014 Volvo FH540 6x4 heavy haulage tractor unit plus tractor units from MAN, Renault and DAF. The sale is unreserved, so you have the chance to grab a bargain. If you can't wait until the end of the months, CVA have a sale on the 17th October and Malcolm Harrison on the 21st. As usual, all of the auction inventory is listed online at www.truckpages.co.uk…
