The LF320 is the top-powered truck in the DAF LF range. Perhaps the truck is over-powered for an 18-tonne rigid. The LF320 is available as a construction version – it is in this guise that the increased power makes more sense – if there are PTO applications running on the truck, for example. There are not a great deal of these trucks available on the used truck market – when buying new, operators will have opted for the more sensible LF260 for local high payload operation or the larger cab of the CF320 using the same PX-7 engine for longer distances.
The recent acquisition of five new DAF 18t tippers by Dundee – based Tayside Contracts are extra units for its 24 – strong general purpose tipper fleet. The company specified them to be able to handle the broadest range of duties including transporting hot asphalt for everyday road repair work through to gritting and snowplough duties in the depths of winter.
