The Scania R420 trucks advertised at Truckpages will typically be from 2006 to 2012. The earlier models before 2006 used the 11.7 litre DC12 engine at Euro 3. After 2006, Scania had the Euro 4 versions available – still using the DC12 but now fitted with EGR. With the introduction of Euro 5 in 2009 the R420 remained – but as an SCR version whilst the upgrade was to have the new R440 with a 13-litre engine – the DC13 with EGR. The R420 was finally discontinued with the retirement of the 11.7-litre engine in 2012, just before the introduction of Euro 6. From that point, Scania used just the DC13 at 400, 440 or 480HP (and the 16-litre V8). The used truck market for R420s is dominated by tractor units, although there are some rigids always available – particularly tippers and crane trucks.
