The V8-powered R580 has been around for some while, only recently receiving an upgrade to the 590hp version in 2020. The 580 uses Scania’s infamous 16-litre V8 engine and is the sensible power output to choose. A lower powered 520 version of the V8 was available (now the 530) but why bother when you could have the lighter 13-litre version with more power? Of course, the mighty 16-litre V8 goes right up to 760 (770) horsepower, but is this really necessary on the UK’s roads given the lack of extreme mountainous terrain? Only for a heavy haulage application perhaps.
Our verdict? If you are looking for the unique sound of the engine then the R580 is the right choice of used R-Series Scania.
Well, you don't get many of these to the pound. We are calling this a V8 Scania R580 'Longline'. It's a 2015 model and, whilst the interior of the sleeper section is enormous, an estate agent might refer to it as a 'doer upper' where the owner can leave their own mark. What a striking piece of machinery - it must be a one off in the UK - and you could be the proud owner if you take part in Protruck's 4th October special Harrogate 'Drive Thru' truck & trailer auction. From Monday 23rd September, Protruck staff will be…

The truck has a twin wheel lifting tag axle, full air suspension and a wet kit for walking floor applications. It is joined by more heavy haulage tractor units - a 2015 R580 plated at 150 tonnes and a 2018 650S Scania plated at 72 tonnes all…
Nigel Clegg, the man responsible for the transport and logistics activities of one of Cumbria's leading plant hire, transport and recycled aggregates and demolition contracting specialists, Metcalfe Plant Hire Limited tells us why his company continues to select Scania vehicles as its preferred fleet choice, which Metcalfe Plant Hire has now been doing for more than two decades. "Quite simply, it's all about reliability and back-up – and I cannot fault either the Scania product or the service we get from Graham Commercials, our local Scania dealer. The trucks perform exceptionally well, they are ideal for our operations, and the…
