Tri-axle trailers are the most commonly used semi-trailers in the UK. This is why we see large numbers of used tri-axle trailers for sale on the Truckpages website. These pages contain all three axle trailers, regardless of the body that has been built onto the trailer. Most common triaxles are refrigerated trailers for food distribution and skeletal trailers used for hauling shipping containers to and from ports. Curtainside three axle trailers are popular for general haulage and box trailers for retail distribution.
You will need a triaxle trailer combined with a three axle (6×2) tractor unit to be able to operate legally in the UK at 44 tonnes gross vehicle weight. the greater the number of axles the truck and trailer combination has, the greater the G.V.W. allowed (up to the maximum of 44 tonnes). Note in continental europe this maximum is 40 tonnes and only requires a 4×2 tractor unit with a tri-axle trailer. Irish haulage firm BM Transport has welcomed the Tiger Trailers brand to its fleet for the first time following its order for 30 curtainsiders.
