Another haulier has opted for a new Volvo FH with I-Save technology in an attempt to reduce fuel bills.

Another Volvo FH Sale Based on Fuel Economy
ITS Transport Chose Volvo FH on Fuel Efficiency

I.T.S. Transport’s new FH uses Volvo’s D13TC Euro-6 Step D engine with turbo-compounding and updated fuel-efficiency features.  With more torque available, less acceleration and fuel are needed to keep a steady speed in motorway traffic, making it the ideal solution for long-haul customers.

David Donaldson, Transport Manager, at I.T.S. Transport, says:

“We considered a number of options when looking for our latest addition, but Volvo won the deal for its fuel efficiency and lower total cost of ownership. Our trucks cover a lot of ground, so we need the confidence they are going provide us with the best fuel efficiency on every single journey. Volvo’s turbo-compounding technology was a major pull for us and we’re looking forward to seeing the savings at the pumps.

Mixed Fleet – One Third Volvos

The new FH 6×2 tractor unit is specified with Volvo’s Globetrotter cab and replaces an older vehicle from a rival marque. It joins the company’s 11-strong fleet, which already includes two older Volvos, all of which work across the UK and Europe.

The new FH will be used for general haulage, including the transportation of flour, and is expected to cover more than 100,000 km a year, working five days a week.

“Our driver is big fan of Volvo as well,” adds Donaldson. “We wanted a truck that we knew he would be happy in and he has always specified Volvo as his favourite to drive. You have to look after your drivers, and it’s fair to say he is absolutely over the moon.”

I.T.S. Transport is a family run independent haulage company which was established in 1979. The business operates from its premises in Irthlingborough, Northants.

The D13 Turbo Compounding Secrets

Volvo’s D13TC turbo-compound engine has pistons with a wave-shaped interior that improves combustion and increases efficiency by guiding heat and energy to the centre of each cylinder. Excess energy in the exhaust gases are recovered to power the flywheel via an additional turbine in the exhaust flow, known as the turbo-compound unit.

Other features of I-Save include a new fuel-efficient rear axle, the Long Haul fuel package with an updated map-based I-See system – Volvo Trucks’ predictive cruise control system – that analyses and adapts to gradients ahead and includes gear-shifting software optimised for long-distance applications. The combined efficiency gains of I-Save can unlock fuel savings of up to 7% compared to a D13 Euro 6 Step D engine without I-Save engine and Long-Haul fuel package.

The new vehicle has been supplied with a two-year Volvo Gold Contract repair and maintenance package – which includes a 100 per cent uptime promise and covers all preventive maintenance and truck repairs within the Volvo Trucks dealer network. All routine maintenance will take place at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia.
