There are more and mode flat floor, high roof sleeper cab trucks for sale in the UK today. This is because cabs are definitely getting bigger.
In the old days a Volvo FH Globetrotter was considered hug, but now we have not only a Globetrotter XL but also a Globetrotter XXL! MAN too have worn out the XL, XLX, XXL sizing descriptions (having reverted back to GX, GM and GN in 2020).
DAF used to be content with a ‘Space Cab’ – now they have a ‘Super Space Cab’ and Mercedes love to go Mega and Giga – the GigaSpace being their top-sized high roof cab (at present).
Do you really need a high roof sleeper cab?
The high roof sleeper cabs are all well and good if the driver(s) are spending weeks away from home, but they add to the weight of the tractor unit and that is no good for payload and efficiency. Never mind the extra cost to buy these flagship trucks in the first place. These large cabs also play to the egos of the owners and the drivers – who wouldn’t want a V8 engine and a super high cab?
But is it the best for your business?

With just 1.735m of internal standing height, the standard ‘Super Space’ cab does not make it into the high roof sleeper category. DAF’s ‘Super Space Cab’ certainly does with an internal standing height of 2.105 metres on the flat floor.
Both the S-Series and R-Series Scanias are flagship trucks and have the Highline cabs available. The S-Series has the truly flat floor with 2.070 metres in the centre of the cab, whilst the R-Series has 1.915 metres, whilst the R-Series has more external storage (187 litres each side vs 161 litres).

The largest of the Stralis cabs had an maximum internal height of 2.080 metres.
The New S-Way has the Active Space (AS) Sleeper cab with a Floor to Roof Height of 2.15 metres (with the high roof version – there is also a 1.7m low roof).
Until 2020, MAN had two main ‘high roof’ cabs – the XXL and the XLX (details below. These are only available on the TGX range – it also comes with an XL cab which is ‘just’ 1.66m high so does not qualify as a high roof sleeper.
With the ‘New Generation’ launched in 2020, the high roof cabs are now the GX (2.44 metres – replacing the XXL) and the GM with 2.04 metres of internal standing height.
The XXL cab is one of the biggest truck cabs in Europe.

After three years of operation with a series of used trucks, Tonnes & Tonnes have taken the plunge and splashed out on a limited edition Actros Edition 1. This is understandable, as it will be driven not only by the owner of the business , but also his wife. Newly-qualified Sonara Ferreira must be one of a lucky few to get their hands on a flagship truck so soon after passing their HGV test.
