Day cab trucks are true local workhorses – that’s why there is always hundreds of day cab trucks and tractor units for sale at Truckpages.
They are ideal for local distribution work where it is more important for the truck to be compact and carry as much payload as possible than for roominess or comfortable nights out.
A good example is for 8×4 tipper operations. Every kilo transported is money earned. So, if you can carry an extra 150kg per journey using a day cab tipper, as opposed to one with a larger, sleeper cab then it is worth missing out on the extra comfort that a larger cab provides.
Body length may also be important. You can fit a longer scaffolding body to a day cab truck than one with a sleeper cab. Som operators may think this is less of an issue if the cab has been converted for crew use – a ‘crew cab‘
So, where payload or load length are the most important factor – specify a day cab truck.
If you have been used to operating 3.5 tonners, then you would expect to get a much larger payload from a 7.5 tonner. Unfortunately this is not always the case – unless you opt for a lighter chassis like the Fuso Canter which has a body and load allowance of over 5 tonnes. The 7C15 offers a combined body and payload allowance of 5,100 kg, roughly a tonne more than a conventional chassis with the same gross weight A new, high payload Canter, sourced from local Mercedes and Mitsubishi Fuso Dealer Rygor Commercials, has helped the Gloucestershire-based craft baker emerge…>

If you need the manoeuvrability of a 6x2 but with a 32 tonne gross vehicle weight then take a leaf out of timber and builders’ merchant, North West Timber Treatments (NWTT) and consider the specification of an 8x2 with a ‘Tridem’ configuration instead of the more common two axles at the front and two at the rear. Additional equipment fitted to the truck includes Hiab crane and a specialist body designed and fitted by Forshaw Engineering. The vehicle was supplied by local DAF Dealer, Lancashire DAF. New truck fitted with Hiab crane and purpose-designed body from Forshaw Engineering The new…>
To work a sweeper longer and harder, more water is needed. This means that a larger payload and gross vehicle weight is required. That’s the motivation behind plant hire, groundworks and recycled aggregate specialist Buntons’ choice of an 18-tonne Arocs for their latest sweeper. The Arocs was bodied by Stock Sweepers, of Cinderford, Gloucestershire, which fitted its S8400 dual and simultaneous sweeping equipment The 18-tonne Arocs road sweeper is now working alongside the Bradford-based operator’s other sweeper, which is based on a 15-tonne Atego chassis. Buntons also runs 10 eight-wheeled tippers, five of which were supplied by the same Dealer…>
