Mercedes Actros Reviews

Since the Actros is Mercedes’ flagship truck model, there are always plenty of news stories to cover this important truck that has been on the roads since the early 1990’s. In recent years, Mercedes have been using the Actros to roll out some significant technological advances – from the early launch of Euro 6 back in 2012 to the introduction of the series produced rear view cameras – a first for the truck industry. The Actros was also the basis of the Mercedes ‘Future Truck’ and has been adapted into a series of models, such as the SLT heavy haulage and the Arocs construction version. The Actros brand has even swallowed the lesser Axor (subsequently becoming the Antos then Actros small cab).

If you have read enough information about the Actros in these news and reviews pages, you will find more information and model timeline on the Mercedes Actros for sale pages.

We are all accustomed to seeing the large power generating turbines dotted around the UK – a sight that is set to become more familiar over the coming years.  A rarer sight is seeing one of the turbine blades heading down the motorway, let alone a convoy of three of them. Heavy haulage specialist Plant…

As Mercedes-Benz only have 35 Edition 1 limited edition trucks to sell in right hand drive form in the UK, you would realistically expect that all of them would be sold to loyal Mercedes truck operators. It seems that this is not the case.  After Alex Lymer bought an Edition 1 – this was his…

A combination of multiple factors has led to family-owned logistics business, Woodside Logistics Group, buying a dozen new Mercedes Actros to join the 16 already on their 100-strong fleet. Safety systems, such as the high-tech MirrorCam and the Active Brake Assist 5 featured strongly in the decision making, as did the driver feedback, dealer service…

We often read about fuel consumption, driver acceptance and dealer service being the driving factors for purchasing a new truck.  Heavy haulage specialist, Alex Lymer saw the limited edition truck, loved the bling and bought it. Some people simply like to buy exclusive things – there were only 35 Edition 1 trucks made for the…

Building materials manufactured by some of the biggest names in the industry are now being delivered to sites nationwide aboard Mercedes-Benz trucks that have raised the bar in terms of safety and efficiency. Wincanton’s construction operations received their first 14 new-generation Actros models from East Anglia Dealer Orwell Truck & Van, a regular supplier to…

In looking at why a truck operator buys a truck, we often hear fuel economy or driver acceptance quotes as the overriding factor. In a first, (for us at least,) electrical equipment manufacturer Crestchic believes that the four-star direct vision rating achieved by the new Actros with the MirrorCam system is reason enough to buy…

Not happy with a straightforward top of the range truck?  Always looking for that something extra for the pinnacle of the fleet?  Mercedes may well have the answer for you, (assuming you aspire to the three-pointed star).  They have brought out a new limited edition run of 400 examples of the Actros 2 just launched…

You wouldn’t think there’d be much call for an 80-tonne GTW tractor unit with a crane fitted that can turn itself into a dropside truck. Well, International fine art logistics specialist Mtec has not only found a use for one, they have had one built. Their new Mercedes Actros heavy haulage tractor unit is used…

Who wouldn’t want to own one of the first trucks on UK roads that uses cameras to replace rear-view mirrors? Scott Reynolds took one look at the MirrorCam technology from Mercedes-Benz and immediately thought, YES. The Managing Director of Sheffield-based waste management specialist DSM was a guest of local Dealer Northside Truck & Van at…

As a small haulier with seven trucks, a canny move is often to buy late, low mileage, used trucks.  With seven trucks – all of which are Mercedes Actros and all bought used – Geoff Woodcock had adopted this used truck buying policy for years, including low-mileage Mercedes-Benz Approved Used units acquired from Roanza Truck…

You would never expect to hear that the type of mirror a truck has fitted could sway a brand loyal truck operator from switching truck brands. That’s what appears to have happened with C&D South West when buying Mercedes-Benz for the first time. However, C&D South West’s new Managing Director Lorna Hammond came to a…

The COIVD crisis has not been totally bad news for everyone. Some companies have actually benefited from the pandemic.  One such example is parcel delivery company, DPD UK. So busy has DPD UK been since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic that shortly after confirming its 2020 requirement for 50 new Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units…

Sometimes you need a bit of luck.  That’s what happened for Truck Sales Executive Martin Kemsley at Mercedes-Benz dealer, Sparshatts.  The Salvatori Group opened an additional depot in Sittingbourne, Kent on the town’s Eurolink Industrial Estate alongside the Mercedes truck dealer. That’s a solid introduction, but you still have to close the deal – Salvatori…

After struggling with poor reliability from their existing truck manufacturer for many years, Michael Whelan decided to try a Mercedes Actros in 2013.  Owner of specialist boat transport company, South West Boat Transport,  Whelan found the reliability so much better he bought another in 2017.  Nearly three years on sees the company invest in a…

City West Commercials managed to get a couple of ‘Approved Used’ trucks into the fleet of ‘Driven by Me’ which gave the brand the opportunity to impress the owner and drivers alike. Entering into the world of truck operation is no mean task. Especially when the company bosses have not run any HGV transport before.  In fact, only eighteen months earlier, the bosses of Forge Logistics had never run a van operation – in civvy street that is. Ex-servicemen Jamie Keen and James Rose-Shaw have recruited their…

Hot on the heels of a deal for 20 Renault Trucks Range T tractor units, announced back in April, FreshLinc Group has now ordered a fresh batch of Mercedes Actros tractor units after just four weeks of setting an Actros demonstrator on the road it had followed-up with an order for 14 identical trucks. The…

If you were to see a truck delivering Mercedes parts to a Mercedes franchised car or commercial vehicle dealer, you would reasonably expect it to be a Mercedes truck. It seems you would be correct. Since the beginning of this year XPO Logistics has been delivering automotive parts to Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Mercedes-Benz Vans and passenger…

Take a look closely at the picture of Alan Davie’s brand new fifth generation Actros and you would have to agree it’s a great looking truck.  There’s something not quite normal about it, however. To the uninitiated, it simply looks like the truck has clean, aerodynamic lines.  It’s only when told that the tractor unit…
