Often referred to as ‘eight wheel tippers’ or ‘eight leggers’ they confusingly have twelve wheels. On an 8×4 tipper there are two drive axles (with double wheels) and two steer axles. Usually, these steer axles are placed towards the front of the chassis, but a relatively recent invention – the ‘Tridem’ sees two drive axles and a steer axle arranged together at the rear of the truck.   It is not just the construction industry that you will find 8×4 tippers, there are plenty in use for waste operation plus other bulk uses, such as beet or grain.
