Mercedes is vying for top spot in the UK’s refuse truck market with Dennis Eagle. These are the two main manufacturers of low entry crew cabs which are so important for refuse truck operation. For this reason, there are always plenty of used Mercedes refuse trucks for sale on Truckpages. Browse through these pages to see the wide choice of compactors and bin lifts available in the used market. We are starting to see numbers of Euro 6 Econic Refuse trucks entering into the UK used market – vital for operation in cities where there are low emission zones like London’s ULEZ. Buy a post 2014 Mercedes truck to be sure that it is a Euro 6. Increasingly strict direct vision standards – especially in the UK – means that the Mercedes Econic refuse truck is the sensible choice with a five star rating for direct vision.
These specialist trucks are typically sold by specialist dealers with the knowledge of the bodies, their operation and their uses. It is for this reason (and because they can smell) that you won’t find too many used examples at a Mercedes franchised dealership.
The first life of the truck is also typically lengthy, as they are expensive machines to buy and they do not tend to cover lots of miles. A franchised dealer is less interested in older trucks, preferring nearly new examples.
So discuss your requirements in detail with a specialist dealer who can offer free advice and make suggestions about the most suitable body for the Mercedes Refuse truck (assuming you are sold on the Mercedes truckbrand.)
Sussex-based waste management specialist The Recycling Partnership has completed its transformation to an all-Mercedes-Benz Econic fleet of 21 refuse collection vehicles, with the arrival of two new chassis from Dealer SAGA Truck & Van. Transport Manager Andrew Burgess said: “We’ve run Mercedes-Benz vehicles for some years but they came from several different sources and other manufacturers were represented in the line-up too. When I took on this role a year ago, I wanted to standardise – not just on one vehicle, but also one supplier. “This simplifies the job of fleet management but also allows us to develop a relationship…
Leeds City Council has added the first three battery-powered Mercedes-Benz eEconic trucks to its fleet. The council calculates that each vehicle will generate a saving of 15 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year – so 45 tonnes per year in total, compared to diesel-powered trucks – while also bringing improved air quality and lower noise to the communities they serve. Supplied via refuse collection vehicle specialist FAUN Zoeller UK, the vehicles are equipped with 22 m3 Variopress compactor bodies and Rotary 3 bin lifters. These are built onto Mercedes-Benz eEconic 300 chassis, with 27-tonne gross weights and 6x2 drivelines, supplied…

Mercedes has a goal in sight – which usually means the company will achieve it. They are in the final stages of testing their electric Econic for refuse applications and plan to have it in full series production sometime next year. At the moment, the testing is being carried out by engineers with customer tests shortly afterwards. The test engineers’ focus is on trials of the vehicle’s safety, performance and durability. The eEconic will also have to prove itself in tests of the batteries and the electric powertrain in summer and in winter. The vehicle is also being subjected to…
The workshop is familiar with them, they are reliable over a ten-year working life, but the key factor in Moray council choosing four new Econics was the safety features. All but three of Moray Council’s 29 refuse collection trucks are Mercedes trucks. Vehicle Services & Compliance Manager John Pearson said: “We know from experience that the Econic is highly dependable over a 10-year working life, during which it provides excellent value for money thanks to low running costs and minimal downtime. “It also helps that our in-house technicians are very experienced when it comes to maintaining the fleet, and can…
