Well, we’ve never seen anything like it. Usually, top-end truck cabs couldn’t be further away from the world of municipal operations. However,  DG Sweeper Hire has added to its growing fleet of road sweepers with the delivery of a unique Volvo FH 420 4×2 rigid.

The new arrival is believed to be one of the only FH sweeper trucks in the UK.

Supplied by Andrew Ellis, Customer Solutions Manager at Thomas Hardie Commercials, the high-specification FH will be a flagship vehicle for the business which offers its road sweeping services to domestic and commercial customers across North Wales and Cheshire.

It Certainly Stands Out

Daniel Griffith, Owner of DG Sweeper Hire, says: “We wanted something that would stand out from the crowd and draws attention when it’s out on the road. This FH fits the bill perfectly, we’re hoping it will help us attract new customers and impress our current ones.

“The new truck takes our rental fleet up to four sweepers now; they are all Volvos and have never let us down. We did try another manufacturer in the past, but we weren’t impressed. In my view, nothing compares to the Volvo chassis.”

Equipped with road sweeping bodywork from Bucher Municipal, the FH features full air suspension and is finished in an eye-catching metallic grey. The new sweeper is built on a 4,300mm wheelbase and is powered by a D13K engine, producing 420hp and 2,100Nm of torque. It’s driven through Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift gearbox.

Comfort Inside Too

Inside the sleeper cab, the driver benefits from a full leather interior, twin armrests, adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt and electronic air conditioning. Added creature comforts include a lower fixed bunk with wide middle section, 154 litres of rear cab upper storage, a 33-litre under bunk-mounted fridge / freezer, plus interior lighting with night light and dimmer.

The working environment is completed with a Media package, including navigation, which provides a complete infotainment experience, with DAB radio and a dynamic 12-inch high-resolution instrument cluster, plus an accompanying secondary colour information display.

Visibility is improved with the FH’s V-shaped LED headlights, which automatically adapt to ambient light conditions, plus rain sensing windscreen wipers and electrically heated rear view mirrors. To boost safety further, the spec includes Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warning systems. The FH’s exterior is finished with Kelsa lightbars and Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels. It is expected to be in operation six days a week.

“We went all out with the spec for this one,” admits Griffith. “We wanted the FH to be our flagship vehicle and it certainly hasn’t disappointed.”

From its head office in Bangor, DG Sweeper Hire’s high-quality fleet offers a range of services – including road sweeping, gully emptying, drain jetting and jet washing.
