Scotland’s W J & J Green has taken delivery of a high-specification Volvo FH16 750 Globetrotter XL 6×2 tractor unit – the second truck the business has added to its fleet from the Swedish manufacturer in 2023, following a 21-year absence.

Supplied by Kevin Fraser, Transport Solutions Executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the new FH16 follows a Volvo FH 540 that arrived earlier in the year. The new flagship truck will be deployed on both livestock and bulk haulage, being paired with a Houghton Parkhouse and a Wilcox tipper trailer respectively.

Iain Green, Director at W J & J Green, says: “It had been a little while since we added a Volvo to the fleet, but we have always kept a firm eye on the products it brings to market. When the time came to welcome new trucks to the business, we quickly concluded that the FH and FH16 were the right choices for us in 2023, both delivering the high performance and robust reliability we need at an attractive price point.

“Kevin and his colleagues have been a pleasure to work with, going above and beyond to keep us in the loop at all stages and to make sure the final specification was ideally moulded to our needs.”

The FH16 benefits from Volvo’s Euro-6 Step E D16K engine, delivering 750 hp and an impressive peak torque of 3,550 Nm, driven via a 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission. This is complemented by full air suspension.

The vehicle’s spacious Globetrotter XL cab has been kitted out with numerous optional extras including leather upholstery, a fridge, a microwave and a TV.

A Living++ package brings additional cab storage, a bottle holder and twin bunks to the build, while a Media package with navigation provides a comprehensive infotainment experience through a 12-inch dynamic instrument cluster and DAB radio.

While the truck is the second Volvo to arrive with W J & J Green this year, it is the first featuring the company’s traditional blue and silver livery, which has been applied in enhanced factory paint. Alcoa Dura Bright alloys have also been fitted, creating a stand-out exterior finish.

“It has only been on the road for a short amount of time, but our driver has already noted just how comfortable the truck is,” adds Green. “It’s a great-looking vehicle, that’s for sure, and we’re very excited to see how it performs for us going forward.”

The FH16 will operate across the UK, clocking up to 160,000km annually. It is backed by a comprehensive Volvo Gold Contract, the manufacturer’s highest-tier service agreement, providing full cost control, worry-free ownership, and maximum uptime.

W J & J Green operates from Corskie Farm, east of Inverness, where the Green family run a large mixed arable and livestock farm.
