12 tonne curtainsiders are becoming increasingly popular in the UK – that’s why there are bigger numbers of these trucks for sale at Truck Pages than ever. The 12 tonne curtainsider’s growing popularity is thanks to the excellent payload when compared to a 7.5 tonne curtainsider which looks very similar side by side on the road. There used to be a large pool of drivers able to drive a 7.5 tonner on a car licence, but now, these 50 year old plus drivers with ‘Granddad’s rights’ are less commonplace. So, if you need a driver with a restricted HGV licence to drive a 7.5 tonne curtainsider with a payload of just three tonnes, you may as well use the same driver on a 12 tonner with over seven tonnes! There is the same operational flexibility in terms of ease of loading with a 12 tonne curtainisder, but you can have a heavier body and a tail lift without compromising the carrying capacity.
