You’ll find tonnes of used 26 tonne curtainsiders for sale on these pages. These 6×2 rigids can operate on their own comfortably with power outputs of 260 to 320hp but, if you are thinking of using the truck as a prime mover in a drawbar combination, then you should be looking at power levels of over 400hp – ideally around the 460hp mark. A used 26 tonne curtainsider will have been used either on local deliveries – think builders merchants with a truck-mounted forklift carried on the rear, or for longer distance transport where the cab size is all-important. Typical body length for a 26 tonne curtain truck will be around the 30ft (10m) mark. Longer options are available up to 32ft and shorter, 28ft examples will typically have higher bodies and be used on the local builders’ merchant deliveries. Nearly all of these trucks will be fitted with the additional axle behind the drive axle at the rear and will be a lift axle. Look more closely and you may find examples with rear steering axles – vital of tricky deliveries.
