Such was Hiab’s market dominance in the UK some years ago, Hiab truck cranes become the ‘hoover’ of the industry. Many truck buyers looking for a crane truck will still ask for a Hiab truck, whether they actually want this specific brand or not. There are more crane manufacturers serving the UK market these days, but Hiab still play a significant role in the marketplace. The company manufacturers standard cranes from light duty right up to heavy duty 90 tonne metre cranes such as the X-HiPro 1058. The group’s super-sized heavy cranes are marketed under the Effer brand.
In addition to standard loader cranes, Hiab also sell forestry cranes and recycling cranes under the Loglift and Jonsered brands.
Hiab (Hydrauliska Industri AB ) has been manufacturing loader cranes since 1944 in Sweden and is now part of the Cargotec group, although had originally been bought by Finnish Partek Group in 1985 who subsequently sold it to Finnish conglomerate Kone which later renamed itself Cargotec.
In the UK the company is based in Ellesmere Port in the North West, it has a nationwide network of installers and service agents, some of which are owned by the business and others operating as agents.
