Palfinger claim to be the world market leader in loader cranes with market shares of around 35% . The company has crane models to cover all industries, from construction to local authorities to waste management and building maintenance. As you would expect from the world leader, Palfinger have a range of over 100 truck mounted cranes available across all weight ranges. From the smallest 1.5 tonne metre cranes suitable for a dropside Ford Transit which can reach over three metres and weighs in at just 164kg to the mighty ‘PK 200002 L SH HIGH PERFORMANCE’ which has a lifting height of over 49 metres and maximum lifting moment of 140 tonne metres. Nearly 100 years old, Palfinger is an Austrian business and the family are still the majority shareholders of a business with more than 12,000 employees. The company sells their truck loader cranes in 32 countries, including the UK.
Palfinger sells its cranes in the UK through official distribution, T H White group who brand themselves as ‘Palfinger UK’ with a head office in Devizes, Wiltshire. The company’s claim is that it is the largest national lorry crane provider that offers in-house assembly, bespoke body-building and servicing. There are four main UK sites responsible for servicing the cranes, the head office plus Bradford, Falkirk and Leicester. These sites manage teams of home-based mobile repairer engineers.

MV Commercial has supplied specialist rail and infrastructure services provider Readypower Rail Services with three 32-tonne 8×2 Volvo FH460s, mounted with heavy haulage plant bodies and Palfinger PK33002 loader cranes. The three new trucks join the company’s 24-strong mixed commercial vehicle fleet, of which a third have now been supplied by MV Commercial. Joseph Parr has taken delivery of a Volvo FM Electric 6x2 rigid, believed to be the first zero-tailpipe heavy-duty truck working for a builders’ merchant in the UK. The new FM Electric will operate predominantly from the business’ Bradford depot, carrying out back-to-base customer deliveries. It was part funded by a grant from Bradford City Council, which will monitor the truck’s impact closely – via data from Volvo Connect, the manufacturer’s fleet management system – as it tries to drive down carbon emissions in the city’s Clean Air Zone and wider areas. Volvo FE Electric directly replaces a similarly sized diesel vehicle in the Hounslow fleet, unlocking an immediate sustainability benefit.
