The Scania R420 trucks advertised at Truckpages will typically be from 2006 to 2012. The earlier models before 2006 used the 11.7 litre DC12 engine at Euro 3. After 2006, Scania had the Euro 4 versions available - still using the DC12 but now fitted with EGR. With the introduction of Euro 5 in 2009 the R420 remained - but as an SCR version whilst the upgrade was to have the new R440 with a 13-litre engine - the DC13 with EGR. The R420 was finally discontinued with the retirement of the 11.7-litre engine in 2012, just before the introduction of Euro 6. From that point, Scania used just the...
A member of Scania’s R-Series family since its introduction for Euro 5 back in 2009 the 440 was the first time we saw Scania’s DC13 EGR engine (which was also available as a 400 and 480hp version.) Rated at 440 HP, 2012 saw the R440 get an optional EGR or SCR operation for Euro 6. Post-2009 models will have received the facelift – noticeable by the grille and dashboard and lost the ‘third’ pedal (namely the clutch) – you will see details of ‘2-pedal Opticruise’ in certain adverts. Prior to this time, the driver needed the clutch to start and stop with the automated...
Launched from Euro 6 in the UK in 2014, all of the Scania R450 trucks you should find for sale on these pages should meet this standard. Using Scania's 13-litre engine and SCR only approach to meeting the emissions standard, the 450hp can run equally happily on diesel, HVO or Biodiesel without any changes required for the engine. Available as a tractor unit or rigid, with either 4x2 or 6x2, the truck is available with manual or Opticruise transmissions and a range of 5 cabs, with three sleepers, including the Highline and two day cabs, (including a low one for car transporters etc.). As...
R500 buyers need to look closely, as the same model designation could buy you a Euro 3, 15.6-litre, V8 DC16 version from 2004 onwards or a much more modern 13-litre straight 6 at Euro 6. Use the filters wisely on the search facility on Truckpages to make sure you get the truck you are looking for. The latest R500 trucks (from 2020) are SCR only and can run on up to 100% HVO. Post-2009 models will have received the facelift – noticeable by the grille and dashboard and lost the ‘third’ pedal (namely the clutch) – you will see details of ‘2-pedal Opticruise’ in certain adverts. ...
The Scania R520 is the lowest powered version of Scania's might 16-litre V8 engine. In fact, there are higher output 13-litre versions available that would save an operator in weight terms but it will not get them the V8 badge and the kudos that goes with it. The R520 has been replaced by a newer model around 2020 - the lowest powered V8 is now the 530hp version. Operators have had the choice of all five cabs for the R520 , from the low day cab to the Highline sleeper, so shop around for the cab type that best suits your operation.
Our verdict: Pay a little more and go for the R580 for...
The V8-powered R580 has been around for some while, only recently receiving an upgrade to the 590hp version in 2020. The 580 uses Scania's infamous 16-litre V8 engine and is the sensible power output to choose. A lower powered 520 version of the V8 was available (now the 530) but why bother when you could have the lighter 13-litre version with more power? Of course, the mighty 16-litre V8 goes right up to 760 (770) horsepower, but is this really necessary on the UK's roads given the lack of extreme mountainous terrain? Only for a heavy haulage application perhaps.
Used Scania R730 Trucks These top of the range tractor units are not so common in the UK, as we don't have the mountainous terrain of some of our European cousins.
Nonetheless, truck operators do like to have a flagship tractor unit and will opt for the top power available at the time. Keep checking back for more examples of this V8 truck for sale on a regular basis.
For many years, the Scania R-Series tractor unit has been the one that every driver wants. Badge credibility plus reliability and comfort to boot. In more recent years (since about 2018 in the UK) Scania have released their new S-Series that has taken away the R-Series crown for tractor unit work, but it remains a firm favourite with drivers. Available with a choice of 9, 13 and 16 litre engines, the R-Series is typically found for sale on Truckpages with the 13- litre at about the 500HP mark. There are plenty of examples of the V8-powered R620 and R580 R-Series tractor units to choose from.
