The MAN TGA is the last of the earlier series of heavy trucks from MAN. There are still plenty of used examples in the UK. The TGA is particularly favoured here in the UK as it also formed the basis of the last ERF truck to be made (MAN Bought ERF some years earlier). Serious UK truck buyers should consider the newer models from MAN - especially the TGX or TGS which were the replacements for the TGA.
The TGL was launched back in 2006 as a replacement for the L200 and the LE. Most often seen as a 7.5 tonner, the TGL is available from 7 to 12 tonnes - at which point the TGM takes over. With a choice of two engines - the four cylinder 4.6-litre D0834 at 160, 190 and 220hp and the 6.9-litre 6-cylinder with 250hp available for use at 12 tonnes. There is a choice of four cabs - the C is the short and low day cab, the L offers a little more height and length. The LX is taller still, whilst the crew cab has the same low height as the L cab but much more room out back.
Launched back in 2006, the TGM is MAN’s medium weight offering. The TGM (medium) sits above the TGL (Light) and below the TGS (not sure what the S is about). Suited to rigid operation from 13 right up to 26 tonnes GVW it is available in 4x2, 4x4, 6x2 and 6x4 form. Often used in regional distribution, MAN’s reputation for engineering wins over many truck operators who are looking for a reliable workhorse. Fitted with a 6.9-litre Euro 6 engine, there are currently a choice of three outputs: 250, 290 and 320hp Many used examples for sale on these pages have plenty of life left in for their...
Search from a wide choice of MAN TGS trucks for sale here at Truckpages. MAN’s smaller cabbed sibling to the top of the range TGX, the MAN TGS is a fleet truck through and through. The TGS replaced in part the wide range of cabs from the outgoing TGA models. The TGA range was split in two – the narrower smaller M, L and LX cabs becoming the TGS and the wider cabs the TGX. As a result, the TGS is typically used as a construction 8x4 tipper or hookloader, although can be seen in local, urban distribution set up -anything that needs a narrow-cabbed truck with a low unladen weight and...
The MAN TGX is the top-weight, long-distance truck from MAN. Solid engineering and subsequent reliability, the truck is more or a favourite with operators than drivers who would prefer to be sitting in a Swedish cab. Launched in 2006 for Euro 4, the TGX replaced the ageing TGA and appeared for the first time alongside its smaller sibling the TGS. Major revisions took place for Euro 6 in 2014 and in 2020 for the 'Second Generation TGX'. Read more about the TGX Timeline below including details of the Euro 5 versions to buy and which ones to avoid. You can search from hundreds of MAN TGX...
You can find MAN Box trucks for sale across three of the manufacturer's ranges in the UK. The most common MAN box on the UK's roads and used truck market is the lightweight truck range, the MAN TGL. The TGL of choice for use as a box truck is the 7.5 tonne, 180hp TGL 7.180. For heavier box truck operation at 18 tonnes, operators will choose the TGM model - the 250hp 18-tonner is the most popular in this range. For three axle operation at 26 tonnes GVW, the TGS is most used as a box truck in the UK - overseas there are also examples of the TGX, but these will be set up for drawbar operation...
It is the middleweight segments that MAN curtainsiders perform well. The 18 tonne MAN TGM curtainsiders are surprisingly more popular than their smaller models (the TGL) and perhaps less surprisingly, they outnumber the 6x2 MAN TGS curtainside trucks available on the used truck market. It is possible to find MAN curtainsiders across the model range, but it is in the 18 tonne distribution segment that the Munich manufacturer is strongest - there is a with unladen weights coming in at around the 5.5 tonnes mark (depending on wheelbase and cab). This is only about 1.5 tonnes more than MAN's...
Despite their high levels of engineering expertise, MAN Trucks do not appear to perform well in the tipper truck segment of the market. A typical MAN Tipper truck would be a 32-tonne MAN TGS 8x4 tipper - there are a few of the 7.5 tonne ot 12 tonne tippers available (TGL model) but these are totally outnumbered by other manufacturers such as DAF and Iveco in these segments. You will find examples of MAN tippers set up with manual gearbox and steel suspension - these are favourites for the export market, particularly the pre-Euro 6 versions.
You can find all ages of used MAN tractor units for sale at Truckpages. From the TGA which stood in for the ERF brand at the turn of the century to the modern, well-engineered TGS and TGX tractor units. MAN tractor units are divided into the cab size. It’s all about the width. If you want a wider cab for longer distance operation, then opt for the top of the range TGX. For this reason, the MAN TGS is often seen as a rigid truck – especially as a tipper, but for high payload, local operations such as fuel deliveries, the MAN TGS tractor unit is often seen kitted out as a pet regs prime...
